From The President

Aro Oki gbo nma nma!

Welcome to Aro-Okigbo.com.  It is our home address and you are welcome to use it together with E-mail.  It is the intention that we use it to get to know what is going on and to network among us.  Use it with the Aro dignity and respect.   With the Aro essence in you we trust that you put thorough thought in anything you put through this media.  Be positive, forwards looking and constructive because we need a very constructive agenda for the 21st century.

Fellow Aros, the bridge to our 21st century is now under construction and you are called upon to contribute.  To do that appropriately you need to know the state of All Aro (USA).  The executive board was mandated to formulate details for the INAUGURAL CONFERENCE OF ALL ARO USA in Chicago on Memorial Day 1998 (last weekend of May).   Since that mandate was received most of the work has been going on at the secretariat here in Dallas.  Of course we are in touch with the other officers of the board sharing ideas.  They in turn share the ideas with their chapters as well as solicit ideas from them.  There is a summary of where we are at.

  1. We are now in the Internet as Aro-Okigbo.com.  Thanks to Mazi Jideofor Oji for all the time and effort he has devoted to its design and installation.  Mazi J. Oji is our able PRO.  He is the chairman of the Information Committee.
  2. We are putting pioneering efforts into the formation of new Nzuko Uma Aro chapters all over USA.  Mazi Nwosu Kanu Okoro, our V. President, who chairs the Membership and Recruitment Committee is leaving no stone unturned to that effect.
  3. Mazi Austin Nwaka, the Provost, is the chairman of the Constitution Committee.  His committee is putting together the draft constitution.
  4. These standing committees have not been created, namely Economic Committee, Social/Political Committee, Welfare Committee, and Heritage/Cultural Committee.  They will be created at the forthcoming convention in May 1998.
  5. We have initiated strong contact with the All Aro planning committee in Nigeria to include us in their agenda.  A well worded letter was addressed to them through the national secretary.  The letter was to make them aware of our formation and to explore areas of cooperation and collaboration.  They were also made aware of the fact that we will be in the Internet.  Nigeria is E-mail capable.
  6. We also sent a separate letter to Eze Aro to introduce our organization and ask for his mandate.  In that letter we broached the topic about the possibility of his gracing our Inaugural conference this year.

As you can see we are operating on several fronts in attempt to put this quilt together.  We intent to have a very successful convention.  But, please, get out of your closets.  We want all hands on deck!

In closing, I want to make a final appeal.  The silence, the dereliction of our civic duties, and the indolence among us is ominous.  We must snap off of that before we self-destruct.  We must reach back into our past glories, bring back what we are known for and move forward.  Yes, as you talk the talk are you ready to walk the walk?  We are ready.  Are you?  You are losing your leadership among the Igbos!

I must state with emphasis that Aro unification and the welfare of our children form the focus and the mission of the All Aro body.  UDO NA NJIKOTA K'ANOACHO.

Join All Aro now in our quests into the 21st century.

Inyi ndewo.
